PROJECT 1:   The use of the River Invertebrate Classification Tool (RICT) in the Foyle and Carlingford catchments, its application in management and the link between biotic index scores and fish density grades.
Management Tool / Applied Outcome   Related Policy
A Introduction of the River Invertebrate Classification Tool to the Loughs Agency EU Water Framework directive
B Identification of sites across Foyle / Carlingford river systems where  biological quality (macroinvertebrate community structure) was not to  expected standard. ¸
C Indication of the type of pollution degrading affected sites across Foyle and Carlingford river systems ¸
D Identification of changes to the Loughs AgencyÕs biological sampling and identification procedures as to comply with RICT.

PROJECT 2:   The porosity of river barriers and the cumulative impediment to the migration of Atlantic Salmon in the Foyle River Catchment.
Management Tool / Applied Outcome   Related Policy
A Calculation of difficulty of barrier ascent of 3 Foyle Catchment barriers to upstream movement of Atlantic salmon, Adult trout, Cyprinids & juvenile Salmonids using  Ōlevel A assessment porosity toolÕ developed by SNIFFER. EU Water Framework directive
B Model to assess porosity of a barrier to the upstream spawning migration of Atlantic salmon across a specified time period. ¸
C Identification of possible model changes to calculate barrier porosity to  species other than Atlantic Salmon
