 | All twelve PhD studentships have been appointed. Seven masters studentships have completed and the new cohort of ten are active. (See summary on the main IBIS website.) Three Continuing Professional Development (CPD) courses were held in 2012, with the topic Freshwater Invertebrate Identification.
The first Knowledge Transfer (KT) workshop was held in September 2012, at Exploris in Portaferry, on the theme Shellfish Regulation & Management. The second was held in November 2012 at the Four Seasons Hotel in Carlingford, on the theme Small Streams: Contribution to populations of trout and sea trout. The third - the first in the series of Stakeholder-Researcher workshops - is being held at the time of writing - in March 2013 - at the Exploris Aquarium in Portaferry. From April 2012 site preparation for the new teaching facility at SCENE commenced, starting with demolition of the old building. The main construction contract was awarded in October 2012. Construction in earnest began in November 2012. The Glasgow researchers are planning to celebrate handover of the completed wing from the builders late this year.
