Introduction

This exercise complements the laboratory work and lectures in the Human Biological Processes course at the University of Glasgow. It is also useful for Physiology & Sports Science related degree courses. You can practice the calculations here at home or on your mobile. Support will be provided in the laboratory.

The exercise involves a situation where you have taken an expired air sample from a subject, and then wish to calculate oxygen uptake and carbon dioxide production. The operations have been divided up, with the data and answers* being carried over from section to section. (You may repeat a section with different data, if you wish, before proceeding to the following section.)

Proceed to Section 1 to begin.

*Answers are required to a specified number of decimal places, abbreviated DP.
